Dr Podgorski graduated MB BS (Honours) from Sydney University in 1980, and became an Intern and Resident Medical Officer at St George Hospital, Sydney, in 1980 and 1981. Between 1982 and 1985 he was Junior Medical Registrar and Medical Registrar at St George Hospital, and Senior Rheumatology Registrar in 1984 and in 1985 became Senior Rheumatology Registrar at Royal North Shore Hospital, Sydney. He took a position as Rheumatology Registrar at the Royal National Hospital for Rheumatic Diseases, Bath, UK between 1986 and 1987, where he undertook further training in General Rheumatology, Connective Tissue Diseases, Rehabilitation and Sports Medicine, Joint injection, and Diagnostic Arthroscopy. He was also involved in postgraduate teaching in conjunction with Bristol Royal Infirmary and Southmead Hospital, Bristol, UK, before becoming a Rheumatology Research Registrar at the Royal National Hospital for Rheumatic Diseases and Bath Arthritis Research Centre, Bath, UK. From 1989 to the present he has been a consultant Rheumatologist with Visiting Medical Officer appointments to Sydney Adventist Hospital, Hornsby Kuring-gai Hospital, Mater Misericordiae Hospital (North Sydney), The Hills Private Hospital (Baulkham Hills), Mt Wilga Rehabilitation Hospital (Hornsby), Dalcross Private Hospital (Killara), and Royal North Shore Hospital, St Leonards. He also completed a Master of Health Law at the University of Sydney in 2001.

Research

Dr Podgorski has particular interest in inflammatory polyarthritis, Biologic and DMARD therapy in severe inflammatory disease, connective tissue diseases, osteoporosis, steroid related osteoporosis and osteoarthritis. He is also interested in the management of corticosteroid and immunosuppressive therapy in rheumatic diseases.
