Doctor Parasyn is a general surgeon with a specialty interest in breast and endocrine surgery, general and complex surgical oncology including sarcoma and melanoma, head and neck and salivary gland surgery. Doctor Parasyn graduated from the University of Sydney in 1998. General Surgery training was undertaken through Westmead Hospital, the Western surgical rotation and Prince of Wales Hospital. Two years of surgical oncology fellowship followed with training in breast and endocrine surgery, sarcoma, melanoma and head and neck surgery. Doctor Parasyn currently practices at Sydney Adventist Hospital, Prince of Wales Private Hospital, and has a public hospital appointment at Prince of Wales Hospital, Randwick. Dr Parasyn has a keen interest in cancer and is a member of the NSWOG Sarcoma and NSWOG Adolescent and Young Adult groups. He is also a lead clinician (part of the Lead Clinician Program, Cancer Institute NSW) in sarcoma at Prince of Wales Hospital. He currently sits on the NSW State Committee, Royal Australasian College of Surgeons as the adviser for the cancer services. Being a conjoint lecturer at UNSW he partakes in teaching of undergraduate and postgraduate medical students as well as nursing and allied health staff. Despite his focus on cancer, he still maintains skills in core general surgery such as gallbladder surgery and hernia repair.

Research

Doctor Parasyn has a number of research interests including surgical treatment of advanced non-melanoma skin cancer, sarcoma and thyroid cancer. He currently heads up the Acute Surgery Program at Prince of Wales Hospital which provides a consultant led program delivering acute surgical care to emergency general surgical patients. This has led to a whole new research interest recently. He is an active member of the Prince of Wales Surgical Research Group and is currently involved in a number of research projects.
