Australia Day Honours List 2015

Several members of the San Hospital community have been named in the Australia Day 2015 Honours List announced by the Governor-General and Chancellor of the Order of Australia, His Excellency the Honourable Sir Peter Cosgrove AK MC (Retd).

 
Recipient Professor John Watson AM was recognised as for his significant service to medicine in the field of neurology, to medical education , and his mentoring role as Associate Dean and head of the Hospital’s clinical school of The University of Sydney which is NSW’s first private hospital based clinical school providing training for medical students.
 
Associate Professor David Baines AM was acknowledged for his service to medicine in the field of paediatric anaesthesia as a clinician, administrator and mentor, and for his contribution to medical education. He has been a volunteer Anaesthetist with the San’s humanitarian aid project undertaking cardiac surgery in third world countries undertaking more than 42 trips since 1984. Similarly, Dr Neil Street AM was named for his service to medicine in the fields of paediatric anaesthesia and for his role with the San’s Open Heart International life-saving trips since 1996.
 
Thornleigh businesswoman and philanthropist Mrs Norma Rosenhein AO was named as an Officer in the General Division of the Order of Australia for her
distinguished service to commerce, and her philanthropy and support for disadvantaged families in Asia, and to Australia-China
relations. Mrs Rosenhein donated funds for a purpose built dedicated Healing Garden for Cancer patients at the San Hospital. (See pic with Prime Minister Tony Abbott)
