EAdmissions- Award winning efficiency at the San

Sydney Adventist Hospital’s Health Informatics Project Manager Jenny O’Neill was this year’s winner of the Don Walker Award for Efficiency from the Health Informatics Society of Australia.

The award was presented at the annual conference where Jenny and SAH’s Patient Services Manager Steve Salmon co-presented their paper on ‘Automating the Hospital Admission Process’, a case study on the implementation of E-Admissions at the San.
E-Admission was rolled out to a pilot group of doctors’ rooms including Paediatricians, Obstetricians and General Surgeons from October 2011. It is also expected to be implemented at San Day Surgery Hornsby.
E-Admissions have reduced duplication of clerical records resulting in staff efficiencies and patient satisfaction.
A recent survey of patients indicated a 96% satisfaction rate with the e-admission process, with 65% of survey respondents saying it was at least 30 minutes quicker compared to filling out and sending in paper forms, and 97% saying they would use the system again for subsequent visits.
Health practitioners have also applauded E-Admissions since admission and history data is legible, drugs are coded and all mandatory pre admissions questions are answered.
E-Admissions is yet another of the San’s projects enhancing its reputation as a Centre of Excellence for ehealth innovation. E-Admissions is now being commercialised by EpiSoft in partnership with with a leading patient administration system vendor.
