San Staff Help Save Lives in Africa

San staff donations to the Adventist Development and Relief Agency (ADRA) East Africa Appeal of $8,907 have been matched by a hospital donation of the same amount taking the total SAH contribution to over $17,815.44. This means that with the AusAID funding, San staff members generosity will result in close to $27,000 going to ADRA for its critical humanitarian and life saving work.

Up to 13 million people are at risk of starvation in Somalia, Kenya, Ethiopia and Uganda because of famine. ADRA Relief worker Ashleigh Plimmer shared her experiences with San staff by letter and in person during October. ADRA has expressed its thanks for staff and hospital generosity.

Sydney Adventist Hospital agreed to match any donations – up to a total of $10,000 – made by SAH staff through payroll deductions in the pay periods commencing 24 October and 7 November, supporting what has been described by aid workers as the ‘worst humanitarian disaster on the planet’. Lack of rain means little water, few crops, limited food, starvation and death. Two million children are severely malnourished and at risk of death.

The Adventist Development and Relief Agency is working in the region transporting water supplies, providing emergency food and sanitation. In the long term they will also re-educate communities about crop growing. All this work is saving lives.

In recognition of this serious crisis and, as an incentive for Australians to donate, the Australian Government aid agency, AusAID, matched all donations made to ADRA up to 30 November.

$20 a month can be used by ADRA to provide food for a child. $120 will provide food for a whole family for a month.

ADRA hopes to raise over $600,000 to enable them to undertake their life saving work in East Africa.

If you would like to make a donation visit www.adra.org.au or call 1800 242 372 today.
