Traineeships

As a Registered Training Organisation (RTO #90919), the San College of Education offers competency-based, nationally accredited courses on a full and part time basis. Nominated courses are nationally recognised. Accredited programs and individual modules from Certificate III to Certificate IV levels are offered throughout the year.

Please note: San College of Education "on the job" traineeships are only offered to employees of Sydney Adventist Hospital.

Traineeships: Certificate III Health Services Assistance (HLT32512) 

Target Audience: Sydney Adventist Hospital employees only. Wardspersons, Operating Theatre Assistants

Course Content: Completed over a 24 month period.

Core Units of Competence

  • HLTHIR301C - Communicate and work effectively in health
  • HLTIN301C - Comply with infection control policies and procedures
  • HLTWHS200A - Participate in WHS processes
  • BSBFLM303C - Contribute to effective workplace relationships
  • BSBMED201A - Use basic medical terminology
  • HLTAP301B - Recognise healthy body systems in a health care context


Compulsory Elective Units of Competence

  • HLTCSD201D - Maintain high standard of client services
  • HLTCSD304D - Support the care of clients
  • HLTCSD305D - Assist with client movement
  • HLTCSD208D - Transport clients


Wardspersons Elective Units of Competence

(5 units - depending on job role / department)

  • HLTCSD306D - Respond effectively to behaviours of concern
  • HLTMS207D - Handle medical gases safely
  • HLTFA311A - Apply First Aid
  • HLTCPR211A - Perform CPR
  • HLTMT303D - Maintain a mortuary service
  • HLTAMBT301B* – Transport non-emergency clients under operational conditions (*must be employed as a HTV Driver to undertake this Unit of Competence)


Theatre Elective Units of Competence

  • HLTTH301D - Provide theatre support services
  • HLTTH302D - Provide equipment support in an acute care environment
  • HLTTH303D - Identify and move to maintain a sterile field
  • HLTMS207D - Handle medical gases safely
  • HLTMS208D - Handle waste in a health care environment
  • HLTTH308C - Handle waste in a health care environment


Course Fee: $2,800 - No charge for SAH staff entering a traineeship contract.

Bookings: Course entry for SAH staff only. Contact RTO Administrator. 


Advanced Standing

All trainees are given the opportunity to show Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL). RPL recognises what you have already learned from work experience, other training or life experience, and credit is given for this against the course you are enrolled in.
