Staying Strong & Healthy
Exercise for Heart Health
Outpatient Heart Health Program:
The Heart Health Program is the next step following discharge after a stent or bypass. It is also recommended for patients who have a pacemaker, have had valve surgery or for those who want to reduce their cardiac risk factors.
The program gives you the confidence to return to family and work life.
We offer an education and exercise program that encourages positive lifestyle choices and helps you work towards your best heart health.
Sessions are run by Exercise Physiologists and cardiac registered nurses, providing a safe environment to increase your physical fitness.
The program runs 2-3 days a week for approximately 6-8 weeks.
Our program is available to all heart patients, not just patients from Sydney Adventist Hospital.
At the completion of the program we offer ongoing support through our gym where clients can exercise independently in a caring and supportive environment. Fitness classes are also run at North Shore Gym located in Pymble.
Conditioning for Life Program:
Some patients experience reduced physical function as a result of long hospitalisation, reduced function or chronic disease. The San’s Conditioning for Life program provides tailored exercise plans for muscle strength, coordination and balance to improve your ability to manage everyday activities.
The program is designed for people with reduced physical function due to:
- Shortness of breath
- Extended hospital stay/illness
- Reduced heart function
The program activities are designed to improve your confidence, mobility and muscle strength.
To make an appointment, we recommend you contact the Cardiac Rehabilitation Department prior to discharge, or as soon as possible.
Depending on your health fund and level of cover, you may be eligible for some rebate. Talk to our Cardiac Rehab staff for information.
