Our Cardiology & Cardiothoracic Specialists

Our Cardiologists and Interventional Cardiologists

In many cases, issues related to heart problems do not require surgery and this study of everything related to the heart, from treatment of diseases to abnormalities is called cardiology. Therefore, visiting a cardiologist is generally the first step towards getting a diagnosis or finding treatment for a heart condition.

The San has over 40 Cardiologists accredited to work at the hospital, with some located on-site. To search for a cardiologist click here.

Based on your heart condition and diagnosis, you may require the skills of an interventional cardiologist, which is a cardiologist that has undergone additional education and training in understanding cardiovascular diseases and is qualified to carry out catheter-based procedures such as angioplasty and stenting. These procedures are minimally invasive and are used to open up arteries that have become blocked. Many of these procedures, including angioplasty and stenting, are carried out in one of our three state-of-the-art cardiac catheterisation laboratories.

Our Cardiothoracic Surgeons

Some procedures may involve surgery of both the heart and lung (referred to as thoracic surgery). In this instance, you will be referred by your cardiologist to see a cardiothoracic surgeon.

The San has 8 accredited highly-skilled cardiothoracic surgeons, a number of whom have had numerous journal articles printed and are internationally recognised as experts in their field. We provide an advanced minimally invasive cardiothoracic surgery service and specialist cardiac radiologists (Level B CTCA Specialist Recognition).

Detailed information on our cardiothoracic surgeons can be found here.
