Your Admission & Stay

Prior to your admission to the San, you will need to have completed our admission form. To allow us to process your admission promptly, we suggest completing your forms online by clicking here.

If you choose to complete the forms manually you must deliver them to us by hand, post or fax. In most cases, your doctor will have given you a Pre Admission Booklet when you booked your admission. Please read this booklet carefully, retain it for your information, and follow the instructions regarding your options for completing the forms online or manually. If you did not receive this booklet, you can download either the full booklet, or the individual forms, in our Download Your Forms section.

Whilst your doctor will explain to you the process and requirements when booking in to the San for your procedure, detailed information is also available in the Services - For Patients section of our website. There is also information on what to do on the day you arrive, during your stay and on discharge, as well as details on how to find us, parking, and public transport options for visitors.

Coming for a Heart Procedure

Your doctor will provide you with details on what is required if you are coming to the San for a procedure. Most cardiac procedures are performed in a Cardiac Catheterisation Laboratory (CCL) and details on many of the procedures are provided here or in our "Know Your Heart Better" booklet. If you are having a procedure in one of our Cardiac Cath Labs, please phone (02) 9487 9130 or (02) 9487 9136 between 3.00pm and 4.30pm on the working day prior to your procedure to confirm your admission time.

The CCL day ward is located on Level 5 of the Clifford Tower and is open from 6.30am Monday to Friday. Click here for a printable map and directions.

If you are having a procedure elsewhere in the hospital, you will be contacted by a member of staff on the afternoon prior to admission.

For further information on our Cardiologists or Interventional Cardiologists you can use our Find a Specialist search.

Coming for Heart Surgery

Your cardiac specialist will provide you with detailed information about your surgery, what to expect whilst you are in the operating theatre and how to prepare.

Depending on the nature of your operation, it may be performed in a Cardiac Catheterisation Laboratory or one of our state-of-the-art operating theatres. Our theatres are located within the recently completed Clark Tower and whilst you are in the operating theatre, your family is welcome to wait in the intensive care waiting room, or may prefer to make use of the Coffee Shop on Level 2 (Ground Floor) of the Clark Tower or other facilities on Level 4 of the Clifford Tower.

For more information on heart surgery click here or download our "Going for Heart Surgery" booklet.

Your surgery may be performed by one of our highly-skilled cardiothoracic surgeons or other cardiac specialists. If you would like further information on them, you can use our Find a Specialist search.

During your stay in hospital your doctor may prescribe various medicines for you to take and you may need to also bring your current medications with you to take whilst in hospital.

If you have any other concerns, please speak to your doctor for advice.
